A local Vietnamese immigrant who worships the Buddhist goddess Thien Hau may soon honor a pledge he made 10 years ago to build a shrine in her honor.

Van Giang, owner of Fortune Oriental Supermarket Jewelry & Gifts in the Timberlake Shopping Center, is asking City Council's permission to erect a 5,000-square-foot shrine, complete with imperial palace-style roofs and columns on Princess Anne Road, next to the Our Lady of Perpetual Help nursing home and Catholic High School.
