NOT since the triumphs and travails of Bjorn Borg has the prospect of a men's Grand Slam seemed so hot. Paris is bracing itself for a Pete wave, as Georgia Sampras's 6ft 2in little boy arrives in town warming up for his fourth major on the trot.
"The hardest one for me will always be the French," said Pete Sampras, sitting in the players' restaurant at Rome. "It doesn't have to be this year, or next year . . . but if it takes me five years, 10 years even, I want the French."
