Seattle -- Down in his basement office in the University of Washington Medical Center, James Whorton has misplaced his amputation saw. He looks around, concerned.
It's not on the shelf with the jar of leeches. Not with the mercury-tinged prophylactic. Not near the arsenic wafers ("good for your skin").
