As a religion and philosophy professor, Paul L. Shiman was a man of strong convictions. From participating in the 1965 march of religious leaders from Selma, Ala., to Montgomery to support voting rights for blacks to brainstorming in September with Newton's Ward 5 Democratic Committee on boosting Deval L.
