This exhibition of sculpture from the classical Gupta period, a northern-Indian civilisation that flourished between the 4th and 6th centuries AD, and with objects gathered from 17 different Indian museums, represents Jacques Chirac's cultural swansong.
The show was mooted by the President in 1998, in exchange for the loan of some Picassos to the National Museum, New Delhi. The Picassos went and came back.
