Procter & Gamble Co. is expected to close a soap and chemical plant in Quincy that employs about 330 workers and pumps millions of dollars into the area's economy, Quincy officials said yesterday. After an intensive lobbying effort by city, state and federal officials to save the 53-year-old plant by the Fore River, the Cincinnati-based conglomerate will announce its fate as early as today.
