WASHINGTON - More than 500 protesters were arrested for obstruction or trespassing at the Central Intelligence Agency yesterday, with another 1,000 or so cheering them on from the sidelines. The demonstration, the first of its kind at CIA headquarters, was called to oppose US policy in Central America and South Africa. The aim was to block the gates and keep employees from entering the CIA complex in Langley, Va. That did not succeed, as workers had been told to report early. The protesters saw only a few employees pass their attempted blockade, even though the demonstration began at 6:30 a.m....
