PETER O'TOOLE, the actor, was yesterday presented with a special award for outstanding achievement to honour his stage career, in the most prestigious awards of Britain's theatrical calendar. He received the prize from Lady Olivier at the annual Laurence Olivier Awards in London.
There was notable success, too, for the National Theatre which won eight awards, a tribute to the new ensemble system brought in by artistic director, Trevor Nunn, which uses the same company of actors and actresses in different plays.
