John Prine seems energized after winning a bout with cancer, putting out a great album of duets -- "In Spite of Ourselves" -- and sounding better than ever on tour.

On "Souvenirs" he covers one of America's greatest songwriters -- himself. Maybe he has writer's block or maybe he has reached the point in his career where he can do whatever he wants. Hey, it's his record label.

Whatever the reason for its existence, "Souvenirs" is a worthy, if minor, addition to Prine's catalog. ...
