Sacrifice is a demonstration of selflessness. People who make sacrifices are not encouraged by other people to act selflessly and their acts are largely reflexive rather than a result of an extended decision process or thoughts of their own well being. Their urges to make a sacrifice of self are essentially intrinsic. Fund raising entails giving of one's self to benefit others versus merely giving of one's financial resources.
