The neon lights were dim on Broadway when Lars and Mary Rydell took a chance and planted their European-style home furnishing store in what was then called the Old Fort Square, 22 years ago. And they were mostly from beer signs in bars that attracted the sort of clientele you wouldn't want to share the sidewalk with after dark.
