I WAS born in the U.S.A., but I was born a Mexican. However, at the moment I arrived, I was not labeled as such by the doctor who delivered me. Nor did my mother and father cry out in triumph that yet another Mexican had entered the world. No, I only slowly came to the realization of who I was, in the same way all my friends did.
