Monarch Notes 01-01-1963 The Bible In English Literature Several of the Genesis stories were dramatized in the mystery cycles, including Adam and Eve in Eden, the rivalry of Cain and Abel, and Noah's escape from the flood. In the Noah story, some humor is used at the expense of Noah's "crabbed" and cantankerous wife, who refuses to go into the ark unless she has her "gossips (cronies) - every one." The York cycle has two simple but effective plays about Adam and Eve, but perhaps of more interest to the student is the Norwich Paradise play which was rewritten in line with Protestant theology.
