A 71-YEAR-OLD British sailor has today finally given up his epic round-the-world solo expedition and settled for being a landlubber after surviving his third shipwreck in as many years.
Eric Bennett, a retired physics lecturer from Bristol, could only watch in dismay from the harness of an Australian rescue helicopter as he watched his 30ft sloop Wiggy being smashed to pieces against a reef off Moreton Island near Brisbane on the Queensland coast.
