AFFLUENT ADOLESCENTS are not exclusive to the UK, so unsurprisingly the United States has its own version of the English public schools. Known as "prep schools" (though their students are usually at least 14 years old), these boarding institutions are most commonly found in America's anglophile North-east (in the Midwest, for example, the only well-known school is Culver Military Academy - the very name of which reflects an emphasis more on rehabilitative discipline than gentlemanly education).
