TODAY'S BIG television shows often trade in nostalgia as one vintage programme after another is revived, but it would seem with one major exception. There is a revisionist history of television as we seem embarrassed that the UK ever watched The Black and White Minstrel Show, still less that it was the leading variety show in the 1960s.
