That about sums up acclaimed Irish writer Roddy Doyle's take on James Joyce's epic novel, deemed by many to be one of the best of the 20th Century.

Don't count Roddy Doyle among the Joyce lovers.

"Ulysses could have done with a good editor," Doyle said recently, as reported in this week's Sunday Tribune. "You know, people are always putting Ulysses in the top 10 best books ever written but I doubt that any of those people were really moved by it."
