Two new studies seem to have laid to rest the theory that changes in the sun's activity are responsible for the warming of the climate seen in the past 30 years.
Researchers presented evidence that since 1985 the warming effect of the sun on Earth's climate has actually declined and the levels of cosmic rays bombarding the planet, which are linked with cloud formation, have also gone down (Proceedings of the Royal Society A 2008, doi:10.1098/ rspa.2007.0347; 10.1098/ rspa.2007.0348).
