The year's best classical record was Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro," conducted by Rene Jacobs on the Harmonia Mundi label. That's according to Gramophone, the British music magazine,
The annual Gramophone awards are worth taking note of and are more respected than the Grammys, at least in the classical field. Gramophone's choices are voted on by the magazine's critics as well as by an academy comprised of retailers, critics and broadcasters. And this year, for the first time, Gramophone also ran a public vote on its Web site.
