One of the questions posed to me by the Crofton Kiwanis Club recently was for a status report on the new HOV lanes on Route 50. Here it is: Work should be starting as you read this. The plan is to build two new HOV-2 lanes on Route 50 between Route 301 and the Capital Beltway. They will be for HOV-2 only at all times, said Dave Buck, spokesman for the Maryland State Highway Administration. Work should be finished in fall 2002. Dear Dr. Gridlock: May I weigh in with one observation that I am surprised hasn't made it into the merging debate? The use of turn signals would help those of us in line...
