The cold-blooded inhabitants of Phillips Park Zoo in Aurora are greeting visitors in newly remodeled digs these days.

After being closed several months for renovation, the reptile house at 1000 Ray Moses Drive is back in business.

My 5-year-old son, Nicholas, stopped by this week to reconnect with his favorite snakes and gators.

"Hey, it doesn't stink in here anymore," he proclaimed.

No, it doesn't. And the lighting is better, the swimming ponds are deeper and the display cases are shinier. The animals even seem happier. Did I detect a gleam in the eye of the red...
