200p - General retailers - The weakness in high-street spending has cost many UK retailers dear. But it has not affected N Brown because this operator specialises in home shopping. And, with a string of successful online offerings, the group looks well-placed to benefit from a market segment that is actually growing. Indeed, N Brown's online sales rose 60 per cent, year on year, for the 21 weeks to 21 January, and now account for 16 per cent of total sales, or about GBP80m on an annualised basis.
Even so, this success can't mask the fact that the group has suffered due to its lack of focus....
