Aunt Jeanne was the letter writer, but Uncle Zel would pick up the telephone regularly to call us from California to find out how we were doing. In early 1978, he called and said, "I have a friend in Washington. I told him about you. He wants you to call. His name is Bob Strauss."
I recognized the name of the former chairman of the Democratic National Committee, and I didn't think Mr. Strauss was waiting for my call. But, Uncle Zel persisted. Periodically, he would call and ask, "Well, did you call him yet? I told him you would call."
