There's the disaster ... and then there are the pictures of the disaster from every angle. Would the world have been as astonishingly generous without the moving images of killer waves smashing into holidaymaker-filled Indian Ocean shores? Would the response have been as overwhelming if global leaders weren't so in need of uniting, with no political implications, against a common enemy (and so desperate to show how charitable they can be)?
