The sisters from bethany, Mary and Martha, have been in my meditations for some years now. As a girl, I was taught the traditional view of these sisters--that Mary's quiet discipleship at Jesus' feet, as related in the Gospel of Luke (10:38-41), is the preferred behavior for women; Jesus tells busy sister Martha that Mary has "chosen the better part" by sitting and listening to him.
