MedImmune Inc., a Gaithersburg-based biotechnology company, yesterday reported that it turned its first quarterly profit in seven years, posting earnings of $3.3 million (13 cents a share) in the fourth quarter, compared with a loss of $10.8 million in the same period in 1996. For all of 1997, MedImmune said it lost $36.9 million, compared with a loss of $29.5 million in 1996. Revenue for the quarter almost tripled, to $53.8 million from $18 million, while yearly revenue nearly doubled, to $81 million from $41.1 million.
