`Matrix,' `Powers' lead MTV nominees

New York -- "American Beauty," which won the Oscar for best picture this year, has tougher competition in the MTV Movie Awards: "The Matrix" and "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me," which each pulled in six nominations.

The ninth annual awards will be given June 3 and aired on MTV June 8. Sarah Jessica Parker ("Sex and the City") will host.

Nominees are chosen through a poll of MTV viewers, who also vote for the winners.
