Author Wyndham Lewis sought to publicize his book 'The Apes of God' by antagonizing the very people he had initially depended upon to bring it to publication. Lewis wrote the book as a satire of the self-promoting tactics of the modernists, but used the same methods to create interest in his work. His work primarily critiques the lifestyles of wealthy dilletantes who influence artistic circles by virtue of their social standing.
