His hands alone told enough stories to fill a book. Calluses from the thousands of cars he had fixed through the decades and scratches and bruises from when his wrench slipped on a stubborn bolt told tales.
Even in retirement, Billy Joe Major's hands were rough, unpolished, strong and gentle - kind of like the man himself.
Mr. Major wasn't much for talking when he could just do it. He preferred football to church on Sundays, even though today's players weren't as tough as they used to be. He smoked Winston Light 100s - in the soft pack, because they tasted better.
