Divestitures by food and food-related companies reached a record-high 808 last year according to exclusive Food Institute analysis of mergers and acquisitions. Activity was up for 16 of the 27 categories tracked, while in the remaining 11 categories, transactions declined. Food processing firms accounted for the largest portion, 198 transactions - up 29% from the prior year and far exceeding activity in any prior year.
