How long can you hold your breath? Not very long. Your body needs air to live and your lungs are the organs that help you breathe. They work together with your heart and the blood in your circulatory system to carry air to every part of your body. What Do Your Lungs Look Like? Your lungs are located in your chest behind your rib cage. They look like two soft, wet pinkish-gray sponges. Your hard bony ribs help protect your lungs.
