London, Frankfurt exchanges plan merger allied with Nasdaq

London -- The London and Frankfurt stock exchanges on Wednesday announced plans for a full merger and an alliance with New York's technology-heavy Nasdaq stock market. The exchanges are hoping to build a pan-European trading heavyweight and a 24-hour global market in new-economy stocks -- both unthinkable only a few years ago.
The combined exchange would be Europe's biggest by far and the world's fourth largest.
