L & M CATTLE CO., Idabel, OK was issued a warning letter on Apr. 9, 2007 by FDA following an investigation of its operation from Dec. 19-20, 2006. FDA confirmed L & M Cattle Co. sold for slaughter for human food consumption three calves that were adulterated under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service analyses of tissues collected from these animals disclosed the presence of the drug gentamicin in the liver and kidney of two calves and in the kidney of the third calf.
