LA Aluminum Casting Co., Hayden Lake, ID, is helping the University of Idaho's Future Truck Team to fine-tune a heat treatment for an aluminum casting that's part of the prototype to be entered in the Future Truck competition. The contest, June 9-17, at Ford's Proving Ground in Romeo, MI, pits student teams from 15 universities who have reengineered Ford Explorers to achieve lower levels of emissions and at least 25% greater fuel economy. A simultaneous goal is to maintain the Explorers' performance, utility, safety, and affordability standards.
