John J. McCarthy, 59, president and chief executive of HMSHost Corp. of Bethesda, died Nov. 4 of pneumonia at a hospital in Ocala, Fla., where he lived. He also had a home in Arlington. Mr. McCarthy had worked for HMSHost, one of the country's leading providers of food, beverage and retail concessions to airports and highway travel plazas, and its predecessor companies since 1974.
