The Rev. John Calvin Smith knew at age 9 he was called into the ministry. He was known among his neighbors as the "young preacher," constantly sharing his faith with his childhood peers. Smith is now going on his 17th year as pastor of New Weeping Mary Missionary Baptist Church in the historic community of Fentress. The congregation still gathers on the original land purchased in 1900. "My grandfather, Jesse H.
