As author of two bio-discographies about the Dorsey Brothers I'm quick to acknowledge that neither of the Pennsylvania duo could be labeled "jazz icons". No one can argue the bulk of their output is not commercial. However as far as Jimmy is concerned his early years from 1924 to 1927 can definitely be pointed to as his 'jazz period', a time when he worked extensively with the many California Ramblers' and Red Nichols' groups.
