Poet Randall Jarrell depicts the loneliness of man in his poetry. The feelings he expresses can be traced back to his early childhood when he was deprived early of a father and left with a mother whom he did not particularly like. Thus, fairy tale themes about mothers who eat their children are also reflected in some of his work.
