ROCKLAND-- James J. Hanley, 80, died Nov. 28, 2001, at Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport after a brief illness.
Born on Vinalhaven, he was a son of James and Llora Morton Hanley. He grew up in Rockland, attended local schools and graduated from Rockland High School in 1938. While in school, he played football and hockey.
During his younger years, he raked hay and also worked as a deep-sea fisherman, a lobsterman and a clam digger.
