Highlights and Key Issues
* Hurricane Dean had a severe impact in August, delaying the general election and causing severe disruption in agricultural industries - particularly banana and sugar production, the main agricultural exports. Estimates suggest that 75-95% of the banana crop and around 40% of the sugarcane harvest were decimated.
* Our GDP growth estimate for 2007 has been cut from 2.9% to 1.8% as a result of this disruption to activity and lower export growth. But the tourism industry escaped relatively unscathed as Hurricane Dean largely avoided populated areas, which should lesse...
