William A. Wulf has served as President of the National Academy of Engineers since 1996. His second term will be completed in July, 2007, at which time he will return to the faculty at the University of Virginia. He has built a reputation as NAE's "education president" because of the changes that he has brought about in staffing, emphasizing education in all parts of engineering, and his careful guidance in leading by example.
