NORWELL -- On a shelf in the living room at 96 Jacobs Lane sits an urn, containing Laura Jacobs' ashes. It was placed there by Elizabeth Deane, the live-in caretaker and housekeeper who cooked meals, ran errands and bathed Jacobs before her death in November 1991. The room is adorned with photographs of Jacobs, the town's last descendant of a prominent family. Her husband, Loring Jacobs, who ran a surveying business that bore his name, died in 1973.
