In "The Twelfth Card" Rhyme tries to discover why a man is stalking high school student Geneva Settle. The girl, who is black, is attacked in a library as she researches an ancestor. The plot twists take you back in history and Rhyme eventually discovers that the girl's ancestor, a former slave, was harboring a serious secret.
