About halfway through "In the Spirit," Sandra Seacat's disheveled new comedy, Marianne (Elaine May) and her husband, Roger (Peter Falk), ask their hostess, Reva (Marlo Thomas), whether they might possibly create more space for themselves in the bedroom by removing the giant stuffed panda dressed up like a sheriff.
