San Diego County farmers who label their produce "organic" had better make sure that's the case. County agricultural officials say California finally has a law with teeth to regulate the organic farming industry and to help protect consumers from fraud.
The California Foods Act of 1990, which was recently implemented as related cleanup legislation passed the governor's desk, requires all organic farmers in the state to register with their county agricultural commissioner by Feb. 1, 1992.
