Being asked to "choose one children's book" is a little like that old game, "If you were shipwrecked on a desert island, what one book would you want?"

I chose the I Ching: The Book of Changes because I felt it was full of plots, imagery, inspiration, and spirituality--enough to fill my imagination and maybe I could write a book on this desert island. That was my first idea. Alas, there is no version of the I Ching for young people. So I mused over lists and lists of books I had experienced as a young person myself.
