Theoretically, I know what I think about "other hands" penning sequels and prequels to children's classics: I wish they just wouldn't bother. The Wind in the Willows and Heidi and the Little House books are -- or should be -- sacrosanct. In practice, though, I can be won over. It's true that Heidi Grows Up and all those Laura Ingalls Wilder spinoffs are pale, preachy shadows of their great progenitors.
