The June 19 news story "Hindu Nationalists Target U.S. Products," by Kenneth J. Cooper and Rama Lakshmi, is an excellent example of taking a button and sewing an entire jacket to it. The extent of the correspondents' research hinges on a couple of incidents of breaking soft-drink bottles and one case of damage caused to a Baskin-Robbins ice cream shop. Considering the number of cities and towns in India, it would be wrong to derive nation-wide conclusions from these isolated incidents to suggest that an anti-foreign campaign is sweeping the country, fanned by Hindu nationalists.
