As the year turns, the annual Hastings tournament returns. For many years this has been the UK's premier annual all-playall tournament at grandmaster level. This year a complicated new procedure has been adopted to decide on last-minute qualifiers and general entry. It is difficult to make predictions under such circumstances. Here, instead, is one of my favourites from past Hastings tournaments. (A full report on the current Hastings event will follow when the results are known.)
