The Krishna valley in the Indian state of Maharashtra is the focus of a major irrigation scheme to harness the abundant waters of the River Krishna. Some 22 million hectares of land will benefit from the redistribution of water along a canal system that is already 930 km long and to which will be added another 220 km by the end of this year.
